Hey Reader,
This weekend I crafted with all three of my kids. Could I have cleaned and organized the house? Gotten caught up on some other things on my to-do list? Sure. But I didn't, and I'm glad.
I learned how to make a dragon braid with vivid hair extensions in my daughter’s hair (and only swore a little when the strands slipped). Anyone else obsessed with Kpop Demon Hunters?!
I helped my younger son make progress on his Mandalorian costume, and my teenager cut the sleeves off a thrifted denim jacket so he could cover it in metal band patches (it looks SICK).
We started a second project while the first one dried. We started a third because it sounded cool. Craft. Supplies. Everywhere. We ordered pizza and just grabbed a slice when we were hungry. Feral house rules.
It was chaotic, messy, and exactly the kind of “present” weekend I’ve been wanting to curate for my herd. Truth is, I’ve been emotionally exhausted this week, so spending time forgoing all the "responsible" shit and just doing craft stuff was a soothing balm to my frayed nerves.
It wasn’t productive in the “look how clean my house is” kind of way, but it was nourishing in the ways that actually matter. Glue-covered tables, feral house rules, pizza grease on our fingers — that’s the stuff I want to remember. And honestly, sometimes choosing presence means letting the mess pile up while you sink into the good stuff that’s right in front of you.
Weekly Tarot Card.
Upright, the Five of Cups is all about grief and disappointment — the figure staring at the spilled cups, so focused on what’s gone that they can’t see what’s still standing behind them.
Reversed, the story shifts. It’s about picking your head up. Noticing what’s left. Re-engaging with the pieces that still matter. It’s the silver lining card — reminding us that even when things get messy, not everything is lost.
That hit home for me this weekend, surrounded by glue guns, hair extensions, denim scraps, and way too many half-finished projects. Sure, the house was chaos and the to-do list didn’t budge, but what I did have was time with my kids, laughter, creativity, and presence. Cups still standing.
The Five of Cups reversed asks us to stop fixating on the spills and start seeing the good that’s still right here.
A Powerful Question.
Where can I trade “responsible” for “present” this week?
See ya next time.
